We are now Closed for Applications – ICPCN Trustee Vacancies – Help Shape the Future of Children’s Palliative Care

As a result of four Trustees having successfully served six-year terms and being obliged to retire in November 2025, we are looking for talented people to advocate for and support practitioners caring for life-limited children and young people (CYP) throughout the world. You will bring skills, passion and enthusiasm to help us secure the future of palliative care for children and young people living with life-limiting conditions across the globe. Palliative care has never been more important in a world that has been and continues to live amidst many challenges.

Ideally all new and existing Board members will be able to attend the ICPCN conference in Manila in November 2025, including Board and strategic planning meetings prior to the conference.

About ICPCN

Our vision is that all children living with a life-limiting or life-threatening condition and their families, will have seamless access to palliative care in order to alleviate serious health-related suffering and enhance quality of life.

We are the global umbrella organisation for children’s palliative care, formed in 2005 and registered as a charity in 2011, and the only global organisation working to improve access to palliative care to the estimated 21 million children worldwide who need it. We are recognised globally as the leader for children’s palliative care and have a network of members in over 130 countries. We actively work to improve the lives of the children with life-limiting conditions worldwide through communication, advocacy, research, education and strategic development.  With less than 5% of children globally needing palliative care accessing it, ICPCN seeks to close the equity gap, so that all children who need palliative care can access it, no matter what country they live in.

Trustees

Trustee roles are voluntary and are not accompanied by any financial remuneration. New Trustees can be based anywhere in the world.  ICPCN is seeking to develop a Board of Trustees which is representative globally and has a good understanding of charity governance, with a broad spread of skills and experience. We are looking for people with a passion for, and experience in, children’s palliative care preferably at a senior professional level who would be able to represent one of the six WHO regions i.e.: The Americas; Africa; South East Asian countries, Europe; Eastern Mediterranean; and Western Pacific.

We are also looking for Trustees with skills and experience which include one or more of the following: lived experience of children’s palliative care, experience of children’s palliative care within and outside of the hospice setting, commercial experience, charity governance, legal experience, communications, marketing and fundraising; and financial/accounting (a more comprehensive list can be found in the person specification).

The equivalent of at least one day a month though this may vary from month to month. Attendance at quarterly Board meetings (held via conference call, with one face-to-face meeting per year where possible) and time to provide guidance to the Board on issues in which the Trustee has special expertise as needed.
