Thanking our ICPCN Trustees who have retired from the Board in the last few months

As a Non-Governmental Organisation, ICPCN relies greatly on all of our Trustees who give up their time, energy, and free time for the work of ICPCN and children’s palliative care globally. Over the past few months, we have had various changes in our Board – with new members joining and existing members leaving after their time on the board has been completed. ICPCN would therefore like to express our sincere thanks and gratitude to three of our Trustees who completed their terms of office this year:

Sabine Kraft  – Sabine was a member of the original ICPCN Steering Committee, and has been a Trustee since 2011, most recently as Chair from 2016 to 2019 and then continuing as representative for the European region. Based in Germany, Sabine was also on the board of ICPCN Operations in South Africa for 6 years, from May 2015. She continues as the Managing Director of Bundesverband Kinderhospiz e.V. in Germany. Her dedication and years of service to ICPCN is greatly appreciated and we will miss her on the Board.

Dr Marianne Phillips – Marianne has been a Trustee since 2014, based in Australia and representing the Western Pacific region. She is a Senior Consultant Paediatric and Adolescent Oncologist and Palliative Care Physician at Perth Children’s Hospital and is a strong advocate for children’s palliative care, Her clinical guidance over the past seven years has been immeasurable and sincerely appreciated and Marianne will continue to be involved with ICPCN through different projects that are working on.

Dr Zipporah Ali – Zippy was appointed to the ICPCN board during 2012, representing the Africa region. She is based in Kenya and recently retired from her position as CEO of the Kenyan Hospice and Palliative Care Association. Zippy is well known within the African region as a strong advocate and palliative care clinician, and during her time as the CEO of KEHPCA she saw the provision of palliative care increasing greatly in Kenya.

Lynda Gould – Lyn was appointed to the ICPCN board during 2016 and left on her retirement at the end of 2021. Lyn co-founded Butterfly Children’s Hospices and was the CEO for many years. In 2017 she was awarded the MBE by the British Queen in recognition of her services to children and families in China. She served as the Vice Chair of the Board and then as the Chair of the Board during 2021. Her commitment and passion for children’s palliative care was evident in all that she did and she contributed greatly to the work of ICPCN.

Paul Quilliam – Paul was appointed to the Board in June 2016 and was chair of the Board from 2019 – the beginning of 2021 when he stepped down due to work commitments. He was the co-founder of Hummingbird House in Queensland Australia and recently was the Tasmanian State Manager of yourtown and Kids Helpline. He is a passionate advocate for children’s palliative care, and is well known within the region.

The ICPCN board and staff would like to thank each of you for your support and guidance over many years, and wish you well in your future endeavours.

ICPCN are also pleased to announce that we have recently appointed seven new Trustees to the ICPCN board, and there have been previous ehospice articles introducing them:

  • Rob Jones –              European region
  • Gayatri Palat –              South East Asia region
  • Justin Baker –              Region of the Americas
  • Esther Nafula –              Africa region
  • Michael Tatterton –              European region
  • Tan Ru Wei –              Western Pacific region
  • Hanneke Britts –              ICPCN Operations, South Africa.

A warm welcome to our new Trustees, and a big thanks to those retiring. Thank you for all your work to raise the profile of the ICPCN, and at the same time raise awareness of the lack of children’s palliative care services worldwide.
