The International Children’s Palliative Care Network (ICPCN) is a worldwide network of individuals and agencies working with children and young people with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions. We actively work to improve the lives of the estimated 21 million children with life-limiting conditions worldwide through communication, advocacy, research, education and strategic development of services.
The ICPCN’s overall strategic goal for education is to provide high-quality Children’s Palliative Care (CPC) education which meets an identified global need and to support and empower the ICPCN network to train from their own localities. In keeping with this strategic goal, the organisation’s e-learning platform offers 10 short CPC courses, covering a range of topics, with some of these available in 14 languages. ICPCN e-learning courses are available in English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Serbian, Mandarin, Dutch, Czech, Vietnamese, Malay, Farsi, Bengali and now in Hindi Courses are freely available on the site and more than 8600 participants from 191 countries have enrolled on www.elearnicpcn
This week the ICPCN e-learning programme launched the first Hindi course, बच्चों की प्रशामक देखभाल का परिचय. The Hindi language belongs to the Indo-Aryan branch of the Indo-European family of languages. Hindi, and English, are the official languages of India. Hindi is also the official language of Bihar, Delhi, Haryana, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh. It is estimated to be spoken by at least 300 million native speakers. With this huge demographic, ICPCN felt that there was a need to provide this population with the opportunity to access a CPC e-learning course in their native language, to facilitate the access of quality CPC to those children who desperately need it. We are grateful to our Hindi speaking colleagues for their invaluable contribution to getting this course online.
