The International Children’s Palliative Care Network (ICPCN) is launching a new global initiative, Miles for Millions – Going the Distance for Children’s Palliative Care, a movement designed to unite individuals, communities, and organisations worldwide in support of children’s palliative care.
The campaign encourages people to get active — walking, running, cycling, or taking on personal challenges — while tracking their progress and fundraising through a dedicated app. The aim is to raise vital awareness and resources for children and families living with life-limiting conditions across the world.
As part of the launch, ICPCN Ambassador and major supporter Charlie Langhorne is marking his 60th birthday by taking on Ironman Wales — one of the world’s toughest triathlons — in support of ICPCN and Brighton’s Martlets Hospice. His story sits alongside the launch of Miles for Millions, highlighting the spirit of commitment and challenge that the campaign seeks to inspire.
“This year I turn 60, and rather than buy a sports car or take up golf, I’ve decided to challenge myself with Ironman Wales, one of the toughest courses on the planet. I’m doing it to raise money for two charities close to my heart: Martlets Hospice, which provides compassionate care to people at the most difficult time of their lives in Brighton and Hove, and the International Children’s Palliative Care Network, supporting children and families worldwide. Ironman Wales will be tough, but the work these charities do every day puts a few hours of suffering in perspective.”
— Charlie Langhorne, ICPCN Ambassador and founder of Wild in Art, an International Art Trails and Public Events business
ICPCN CEO, Professor Julia Downing, said:
“We are hugely grateful for Charlie Langhorne’s ongoing support and would like to wish him a very Happy 60th Birthday. ICPCN exists to improve access to children’s palliative care worldwide, and Miles for Millions is a powerful new way to engage supporters globally in that mission. Charlie’s Ironman challenge sits alongside this launch and reflects the commitment and energy we hope to see across the campaign.”
Martlets Hospice Vanessa Gutowski-Smith, Fundraising Events Manager, said:
“We would like to thank Charlie Langhorne for taking on this incredible challenge and to wish him a very Happy 60th Birthday. Charlie has been a long-time supporter, and we have been proud to work with him on sculpture trails that have helped raise hundreds of thousands of pounds for our local hospice, which provides compassionate end-of-life care for thousands of local people.”
ICPCN invites individuals, communities, and organisations to take part in Miles for Millions by getting active, fundraising, and helping to expand access to children’s palliative care worldwide.
In support of the campaign, Charlie Langhorne is asking friends, family, and his wider network to consider making a donation in lieu of birthday gifts as he takes on his Ironman challenge in aid of ICPCN and Martlets Hospice.
