EAPC Webinar on Advance Care Planning in Children’s Palliative Care held on #HatsOn4CPC Day

On Friday 13th October – a day recognised for the Global Advocacy Campaign #HatsOn4CPC – the EAPC Children & Young People’s Reference Group ran a Webinar on Advance Care Planning in Children’s Palliative Care. >340 people registered for the webinar from 71 countries, with >135 attending from 44 countries. Participants attended from a range of care settings with all participants who completed the evaluation form rating both the webinar and the speakers as Excellent/ Good.

The season was chaired by Jtika Kosikova from the Czech Republic, and Meggi Schilling-Otten from The Netherlands. The session commenced with Erna Michiels from the Netherlands introducing the topic of Advance Care Planning. She discussed what Advance Care Planning is, why it is important and when and how we introduce it. This was followed by a moving and personal story from Sudonie Scgreuder as she talked about her daughter Milou and the importance of having an Advance Care Plan. Finally Julia Downing from ICPCN discussed research in the field along with International developments, taking participants on a world tour including Australia, Brazil, the UK and the Republic of Ireland, Uganda and Africa. She also shared the recently published Standard Framework for Advance Care Planning for Children.

The team from the reference group wore their hats at the seminar for #HatsOn4CPC Day and the webinar is set to become an Annual #HatsOn event.
