Brief description of organisation
St Josephs home is a stepdown facility for chronically ill children from impoverished backgrounds.
It was established in 1935 by the Pallottine missionary Sisters of the RC church. It has 145 beds and caters for children from 0 to 18 years. Allchildren are referred to the home via the acute hospital.
The Home is an NPO. It is partially subsidized by the State. the children suffer from a range of illnessses with Cancer, HIV/Aids and Diabetes being the most prevelent diagnoses. Other conditions are renal, respiratory and cardiac failures as well as FAS,malnutritionand neurological abnormalities.
