The Sharon Medical and Charitable Trust has provided cancer care and treatment in and around the Salem area in southern India since the early 90s. With recent developments and increased access to cancer care, Sharon has taken another step forward to open the very first Palliative Care center in Salem and is the only one center of its kind within a radius of 150 kilometers. The center was launched late in 2016 and while extending services to adults, the goal and vision is to become a place of hope for children needing palliative care services. Although the work among children has already begun, a separate pediatric palliative care wing is currently under construction.
